TITLE

WHEN CONVERTING MICROSOFT POWER POINT 2007 to DVD THE TEXT BECOMES BLOCKY ALMOST TO WHERE I CAN NOT READ IT

SUMMARY:

POWERPOINT WILL NEVER CONVERT  TO DVD NICELY EXPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE BEEN VIEWING THE POWERPOINT AT A SCREEN RESOLUTION GREATER THAN DVD (720*480).  FOR EXAMPLE, I HAVE A SCREEN 1920*1080 AND MY POWERPOINTS LOOK GREAT.  MY POWERPOINT EVEN LOOKS GREAT AT 800 BY 600.  BUT WHEN I CONVERT IT TO DVD, THE QUALITY OF MY PRESENTATION IS DEGRADED GREATLY.  THIS IS BECUASE OF THE LOW QUALITY OF A DVD. WE HAVE BEEN MISLED TO BELEIVING A DVD IS GREAT QUALITY ALL ALONG. DVD IS GREAT QUALITY NEXT TO A ANALOG TV OR THE STANDARD TV DEFINITION OF 10 YEARS AGO (YEAR 2000).  YES DVD(20+ YEARS OLD TECHNOLOGY) IS GREAT NEXT TO VHS(30 YEAR TECHNOLOGY) BUT NEXT TO A MONITOR WHICH HAS A 800*600 OR GREATER SCREEN OR A TV WHICH HAS HD OR 1080P HD. DVD QUALITY SUCKS.  DVD TECHNOLOGY IS OLD AND ANY COMPUTER WHICH HAS BEEN MADE IN THE LAST 5 YEARS HAS A SCREEN RESOLUTION WHICH IS 2X BETTER THAN DVD TECHNOLOGY.

DETAILS:

Recently I have had major problems with trying to burn a power-point

Or print screens into DVD and have the text to remain in a readable

format.  I used several techniques and several different types of software

to try and accomplish this goal. The final result was that this type of

conversion was never going to look good because I was working with

DVD technology.

The DVD format can not support HD (high definition) video.  DVD format

will accept 4 dimensions (720*480, 704*480, 352*480 and 352*240).  DVD

also displays the presentation in either a interlace or progressive scan.  The

new conventional terms used for this is 480i(interface) or 480p(progressive).

The two display styles differ by how they display the content from top to bottom;

Interlace(i) displays every other line than goes back to the top and fills in the

opposite, progressive(p) is the newer standard and shows every single line in

consecutive Order from top to bottom (hence 1080p).

Another factor which has caused me to fail(not by much) is the difference

between the Wide Screen and default screen display. Wide Screen has a ratio

of 16:9 and the default screen display has a 4:3 ratio.  Why could this be important

when trying to represent alphabetical characters and sharp graphics?  Both aspect

Ratios can be represented in every resolution above.  But the difference

Lies in how the pixel are represented.  16:9 ratio represent the same viewable

area using a wider rectangular shape where as the 4:3 ratio represents the

same content more like a square.  This did not cause the most aggravation but

I figured I should at least mention this fact.

THE DVD burning software should also burn the dvd using the MPEG2 standard.

Which is found on most recent software versions.  MPEG2 maintains better quality

in the final burned dvd and is now the defacto standard.  Another thing I noticed

while attempting to burn the DVDs is that the final DVD Produced jumpy screens.

I used and external DVD when doing my original image Burns and saw this problem.

I even turned the external dvd flat(horizontal) from its original

Position of vertical and it still jumped.  But on my final attempt I placed it horizontal

On the desk on its four rubber feet and it appeared to correct the problem.

QUESTION I ASKED?

IS THE final DVD( product) files on the DVD DIFFERENT BETWEEN THE different

Softwares after it has been burned?

All files with the MPEG2 are standard with the BUP, IFO and VOB extensions.

Software I attempted to use through out this research:

PINNACLE STUDIO 11

WINDOWS 7 DVD MAKER

CAMTASIA 5 and CAMTASIA 7  (used to capture screens, camtasia 7 is great!!!!)

NERO 10

ROXIO 9 AND ROXIO 10  (it burns good DVDs although the options for DVD Menus are not that good)

AVS DVD Player and Converter  (I did burn one DVD but the quality was still bad)

Another thing to remember if your screen is running in full HD (1920*1080)

And you capture the screen at this level YOU SHOULD BE IN GOOD SHAPE

AS YOU EVENTUALLY BURN THE DVD AT 720*480.

But if you start with a resolution of something like 640 by 480 and go up

To DVD quality when you burn the image.   Or if you do a screen capture

And use the zoon features in Camtasia and zoom into a picture with

A 640 by 480 quality.  You quality will be degraded.  So be sure start out

With the highest resolution for your screen captures, your pictures (png and

Jpeg and jpg). If you start out with a very high quality and use the zoom

/crop features in camtasia you should maintain good resolution through

Out the process

BOTTOM LINE

WITH PINACLE (THE FINAL PRODUCT(dvd) BECOMES PIXELED)

WITH NERO 10 (THE FINAL PRODUCT(dvd) BECOMES PIXELED)

WITH WINDOWS DVD MAKER (THE FINAL PRODUCT(dvd) BECOMES PIXELED)

AVS DVD MAKER (THE FINAL PRODUCT(dvd) BECOMES PIXELED)

WITH ROXIO MY DVD, even though it appeared better and played

in all Dvd Players, it still appeared pixilated on my computer.

When I played it in the DVD on a older TV, it appeared respectable.

My three TV’s are 32inch or smaller and they all have been purchased

More than 5 years ago.  None of them are HD (that I know of).  But

When I played the same video using Windows Media player, the

Default player size is small and the video content again looks respectable.

But when I click on the full-size button in Windows Media Player the

Content becomes pixeled(boxy) again.  I monitor sizes have resolutions

Of 1600 by 1200 and the other is 1920*1080.  The content plays In

Full screen with black background on either side. In other words the

Picture is not distorted, the media player simply back fills with a black

Background and the CONTENT becomes pixeled at these resolutions.

TO RECAP

===============

DO NOT BURN CONTENT TO A DVD and EXPECT TO SEE AN

EXCELLENT PRESENTATION.  DVD is limited to a screen

Size of 720by480  resolution. So if you show your burned DVD

On a screen size larger than 720by480, or you show your content

On a projector which uses a display size of 1024by768, or

You attempt to expand your media player to a resolution

Greater than 720 by 480 your content is going to look bad. NO

MATTER WHAT YOU DO.

AT THE END OF THE DAY 720 by 480 is 720 by 480.

DVDs will never be able to show crisp text that a blu-ray

Format can support or a High Definition can support.

To note: Your computer screen will always display DVD

Content more crisper than an older TV.  Your computer

Screen uses newer display technology.

So next time your vendor hands you a DVD for the video it

Created for you. Ask for a Blu-ray or the original HD

Format (1920*1080), expecially if you plan to display

this video on a newer TV with HD resolutions or a projector

with 800 by 600 or better.  In other words always start out

with the best quality video the vendor can give you, your

display technology will dictate what you can display.  If

you do not have a blu-ray or you do not have DVD burning

software go buy it or ask your vendor to give you a DVD

and also the original digitial video created by the computer

in HD (1920by 1080).  Lower is fine too. Just not lower than

the lowest HD resolution 1280*720 (HD DVD, Blu-ray).

To note: IMAX is 10000*7000

ANOTHER NOTE(SOMEONE RECOMENDED) IF YOU REALLY NEED TO CONVERT A POWERPOINT TO DVD. CONVERT EACH POWERPOINT SLIDE TO A JPG OR PNG FILE, NEXT OPEN A DVD BURNING SOFTWARE AND DRAG AND DROP EACH IMAGE IN THE DVD BURNING SOFTWARE ONE BY ONE. I DID NOT TRY THAT BUT I WOULD IMAGINE YOU WOULD WANT THE PICTURES TO BE IN THE PROPER DVD RESOLUTION BEFORE DROPPING THEM INTO A DVD PROGRAM SO THAT YOU HAVE LOSSLESS QUALITY WITH THE TEXT.

DVD FORMAT IS OLD AND LIMITING.
