SCENARIO: DFS REPLICATION APPEARS TO BREAK ON WINDOWS 2003 SP2 COMPUTERS AND

ON SOME WINDOWS XP COMPUTERS; FOLDER AND FILES DO NOT SEEM TO REPLICATE CORRECTLY BETWEEN THESE TYPE OF COMPUTERS.

You cannot access the correct DFS shared folders from a

Windows Server 2003-based DFS client after the link targets

are updated”

FILES CREATED ON A WINDOWS 2003 SP2 V. 4478; SP2 v.4566 dfs file share would not appear

On a windows xp dfs share or on a windows vista; windows xp sp3 etc.  Yes.  Changes made on the

Dfs folder share of t: would replicate down to a windows 2003 sp2 computer/server But any changes

I made on that server would not replicate to any other computer operating system type (except

To another windows server 2003 sp2)….VERY STRANGE BEHAIVOR: IT WOULD ALMOST

WHERE I ACTUALLY GOT THE HOTFIX:

http://support.microsoft.com/KB/954091

ARTICLE INFORMATION:

Consider the following scenario:

  • You deploy a Distributed File System (DFS) environment by using a cascaded DFS design.

  • You configure some DFS links that point to some shared folders.

  • You update the shared folders to which the DFS links point.

In this scenario, you cannot access the correct shared folders from a Windows Server 2003-based client computer. Additionally, this problem disappears after you restart the client computer.

This problem occurs because the DFS client caches the link target information on the client computer. However, after a link target is updated, the DFS client does not obtain the updated link target information from the DFS root. Therefore, the DFS client cannot access the correct shared folder.
